Celebrating Parents Day!

It’s a funny thing about mothers and fathers. Even when their own child is the most disgusting little blister you could ever imagine, they still think that he or she is wonderful.

Parents Day falls on the fourth Sunday every July globally, this year it falls on the 22nd of July 2018. Although its a form of capitalism so companies can profit, it is also a day of remembrance as many times, children take their parents for granted and prioritize other things over their parents.

“I’ll call later!”
“I’m so busy now, I’ll do it later”
“I’ll come to visit some other day”

These are some of the words we use on our parents without even knowing it. Every day our parents think of us and want the best for us but we tend to oversee their hardships and take them for granted. Always remember that they taught us how to hold a spoon to eat before getting mad at them for not knowing how to switch on the wifi.

It’s often implied that ALL parents have to be blood- related. However, this isn’t the case as just because someone is blood- related, doesn’t mean they are parents.

A person does not have to be blood- related for them to become good parents, look at people who have adopted children or someone who is a parent- figures to a child. As long as if they are someone who the child looks up to and can rely on, they are parents.

Did you know?

Parents Day was created by Bill Clinton in 1994 and was adopted by the US Congress. He noticed that there was Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, but despite this, there was still a “void” between the pair of caretakers as children celebrate and appreciate their parents separately.

Therefore, Clinton created the day to commemorate the hardships and efforts of both parents. The day is encouraged globally to share this meaning.  If you feel as though you haven’t appreciated your parents enough, do change the way by acting now or this upcoming Parent’s Day!

Here are some suggestions on how to make your parents feel appreciated for this day.

Spend the whole day at home with your parents

Spending time at home with your parents has to be one of the best moments spent with them. You don’t have to do anything fancy but just appreciate their company.
