Great news for travelers in the Middle East as Gulf Air and Turkish Airlines enter a new codeshare agreement to facilitate daily flights in the region.
Both carriers have frequent flights between Bahrain and Istanbul.
However, the demand for flights to Istanbul has increased for residents of Gulf countries. Air Transport World reported that Istanbul is a popular destination for Gulf nationals for both business and leisure activities.
“Entering into a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines is a positive strategic step forward for Gulf Air, through which we offer our guests a larger combined frequency of flights while strengthening and enhancing our commercial ties,” Gulf Air deputy CEO Waleed Abdul Hameed Al Alawi said.
“We believe that this partnership with Gulf Air will bring a remarkable benefit to both airlines from a commercial perspective in rapidly growing relations between our countries,” Turkish Airlines’ deputy chairman and CEO Bilal Ekşi added.
Turkish Airlines is looking to expand operations in the region through seeking traffic from Emirates Airline, Etihad and Qatar Airways.
Gulf Air has 28 active airplanes flying to more than 40 destinations and is expected to expand its fleet. Turkish Air has a total of 282 active airplanes flying to 47 domestic and 302 international destinations in 117 countries.
