Where you can buy Prepaid SIM Card from New Zealand?

Presence at the Airport:
Amongst the common SIM cards in New Zealand (Vodafone, XT Mobile and 2Degrees), it is only Vodafone which has sales point at both Christchurch and Auckland International Airport.

Outside the Airport:

  • Vodafone, XT Mobile, and 2Degrees have numerous retail outlets spread throughout New Zealand.
  • Apart from these retail outlets, New Zealand prepaid SIM cards are available in convenience stores and Petrol filling station (like Shell and BP) Marts found nationwide.

 

How you can activate a New Prepaid SIM Card?

In order to start making and receiving calls on your new prepaid SIM card, it is necessary to ensure that your number is activated.
Every service provider has a different procedure through which their SIM Cards can be activated. These activation procedures are always outlined in the user guide enclosed in the new starter pack.
The safest way to activate your SIM card is to ask for assistance from the sales outlet during the time of purchase. Otherwise you can call the customer care line from your New Zealand SIM.

Vodafone Prepaid: 777 (from Vodafone phone) or 0800800021
XT Mobile Prepaid: *123 (from XT Mobile phone) or 0800800163
2Degrees Prepaid: 200 (from 2Degrees phone) or 0800022022

NB:

  • With the exception of 2Degrees, all the other providers charge for calls to Customer Service.
  • Most of the customer service centres ONLY open between 7am-9pm from Monday-Sunday

Other Important Things that You need to note:

  • All the mobile plans stated above DO NOT have Blackberry BBM services.
  • Please note that provided the prepaid SIM has internet access, you can still log in to your Blackberry BBM account without subscribing to any special Blackberry BBM package.
  • The Supa Prepay Vodafone details displayed above DOES NOT apply to users of iPhone 4 users, because Vodafone DOES NOT offer such plans on MicroSIM.
  • Upon request, XT Mobile (Telecom New Zealand) and 2Degrees Prepaid users have a choice to select either a normal SIM or a MicroSIM (iPhone 4 user) if one is buying SIM card directly from the Telecom’s retail or support outlets.
  • The only shop that sells 2Degrees Prepaid MicroSIM is Dick Smith Outlet (nearest location 129, Rotherham Street, RICCARTON.
