The fast-paced city of Hong Kong is rarely a destination that families would consider bringing kids. On the contrary, there’s plenty of fun for the entire family. Let us show you around, and you’ll be surprised what lies beyond the concrete jungle of Hong Kong:
HONG KONG DISNEYLAND
A dream-come-true for any child and a millennial, there’s a good reason why it’s called the happiest place on earth. You’ll find seven themed lands including Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Mystic Point, each magical in its own way.
Start with some low-intensity rides, such as the Dumbo the Flying Elephant or the Jungle River Cruise. Then kick into high gear with more thrilling rides such as the RC Racer at Toy Story Land or the Iron Man Experience. With lots of food options, photo spots, and mascots, your family will undoubtedly have a magical time here.
For a slower and chilled day, rally the fam to Ocean Park. This is one of Hong Kong’s leading theme parks featuring marine-life entertainment shows, aquarium showcases, and playgrounds. One of the significant highlights is the Cable Car and the Ocean Express funicular train.
Another spectacular part of Ocean Park is Aqua City. It is a world-class marine-themed area offering a multi-sensory show and the world’s first 360-degree water-screen. Your kids will enjoy this awing and peaceful view of underwater beauty. If you have the budget and time, swing by Neptune’s Restaurant for Hong Kong’s first aquarium dining experience!
THE PEAK / VICTORIA PEAK
Families and couples flock to this spot for killer cityscape views. The Peak’s view platform is 428m above sea level. The best way to reach the Peak is via the Peak Tram. The railway ride is 1.4km and isn’t a long one, but staring from the window will keep the family snapping away at their smartphones.
At the Peak, there are some fun-filled activities for the whole fam. Visit the Trick Eye Museum, the Art of Chocolate Museum and Madame Tussauds wax museum. For some physical activity fun, there’s a playground at the Peak Galleria and another one at Mount Austin Park, a short walk up a hill.
THE BIG BUDDHA
Seated on the top of Lantau Island is Tian Tan Buddha, a giant bronze statue next to the Po Lin Monastery. It was completed in 1993 and is known as the second-largest Buddha statue not built within walls. One of the best things about the Big Buddha is in the journey, experience the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, it has a spectacular view which is an excellent fun for kids!
The statue’s unique name, Tian Tan, was conceptualized after paying a visit to the Altar of Heaven in Beijing. It is 34 meters high majestically, facing northward. It speaks of serene beauty, and soft lines, depicting ultimate tranquillity.
There are over 200 outlying islands in Hong Kong, surely straggling kids on boats may not seem like an easy feat. We recommend heading to Lamma Island, a traditional fishing village. Rest assured you and the fam and sample some exquisite seafood along Sok Kwa Wan, plus some fun interactive activities like starfish-petting and fishing.
Spend a relaxing day here, feasting and fun on a nearby beach. This carefree atmosphere has many locals visiting its shores, especially over weekends. There’s also a blend of culture and style between East and West, which makes this island desirable to families.
Formerly known as “Hong Kong Harbour”, Victoria Harbour is strategically located with a glorious view of Hong Kong’s development and future. With a variety of unique boats, ships, and cruise ships passing by, it will be a delightful experience for the kids to feast their eyes on.
The must-see element of this harbour is its gorgeous light show “A Symphony of Lights” which was the “World largest permanent light and sound show” in Guinness Book of Records. This light and laser showcase features over 40 buildings and skyscrapers on the bay. Remember to have your smartphone’s video function at the ready to record this impressive light show.
