Around Asia

Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Philippines to name a few – some of the Asian countries we have that are full of unique culture and history, not to mention they happen to be famous tourist attractions as well.

Divided into two parts; South Korea and North Korea.

North Korea, or officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is situated in the northern part of Korea. Cities like Pyongyang, Hamhung and Chongjin are known to be the largest cities in North Korea. Language used in North Korea is known as munhwa or cultured language, different from South Korea in terms of dialect – the Chinese, Manchu or Western origins that have been mixed together has been eliminated from munhwa.

Despite the strong Chinese influence that Korea has had, they managed to shape their own unique identity. After the Japanese took over, North Korea experienced lesser of the foreign influence. Now the Korean heritage is protected by the state.

South Korea, known officially as Republic of Korea leads a distinctive urban lifestyle. It’s divided into 8 provinces, 1 special self-governing province (Jeju), 6 metropolitan cities, 1 special city (Seoul) and 1 metropolitan autonomous city (Sejong). The main capital city, Seoul is also the country’s largest city and chief industrial center.

Despite the heavy influence and changes from various parties, industrialization and also urbanization; like North Korea, South Korea has managed to maintain its culture. The government in South Korea encourages traditional arts as well as modern forms.

Hong Kong

Translation – Fragrant Harbour or Incense Harbour. Officially known as Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Comprising of 3 geographical regions; Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories makes Hong Kong the 167th largest inhabited territory in the world. It also happens to be the 11th most popular destination for international tourist.

Famously known as a place where East meets West, Hong Kong reflects a mixture of Chinese roots and the time of the British colony. Mostly filled with skyscrapers and urbanized buildings, the night view in Hong Kong will take your breath away. From Victoria Peak, Ocean Park and Hong Kong’s very own Disneyland; Hong Kong is a hot spot for tourist.
